Through my photography I have realized that my visual preferences and contents are highly influenced by the environment in which I grew up. Iceland is an island in the North Atlantic Ocean where people are somewhat isolated from the rest of the world. The land is covered with lava. There are no trees to speak of, and every year a new volcano erupts, shaking the surrounding farmland. There are glaciers sitting on top of volcanoes, contributing to the island's moniker, “the land of fire and ice.” Iceland 's landscape of contrasts and active geology form our understanding of life as a constantly evolving, multi-layered living system. This awareness becomes a source for imaginative stories rooted in the phenomenal elements of nature. |
